Book review: Who moved my cheese by Dr Spencer Johnson

It is a little bit embarrassing to write a book review about - Who moved my cheese_ by Dr. Spencer Johnson as it was written in 1998 and I had never heard of it before.

But hey, I read it now, so hence the review.

In short, the book is a fable about four characters who live in a maze looking for cheese. It describes how different the characters deal with it when the cheese disappears. And how well they adapt to change.

At first, it was a bit too childlike for me and I didn't like it much. But it is very cleverly done because while reading it you think of different people in your life and how they behave exactly like the characters in the book. So it definitely grows on you very quickly.

And it got me thinking about change.

When did we collectively decide that it is only ok to change up until that moment where we have 100k/year, a house, 2 cars, and 2 kids happily married ever after? I am making this up, but you get the idea.

We are thriving towards this goal and when we reach it we don't want things to change anymore. Change becomes this bad and scary thing.

When did we ever imagine life would work like that?

We are part of nature, and in nature, nothing ever stops changing. The tree grows, loses leaves, flowers, falls over, and transitions to earth. Everywhere you look. change is happening. So really change is the only safe thing there is, the normal state so to speak.

So if you are someone who sometimes feels afraid of your own impulse to change, I would like to invite you to think about joining the Alchemy Circle. A community of strong business women who support each other through every change in our lives.
